Product Description

Croscarmellose sodium is an internally cross-linked sodium carboxymethylcellulose for
use as a disintegrant in pharmaceutical formulations. The cross-linking reduces water
solubility while still allowing the material to swell and absorb many times its weight
in water. As a result, it provides superior drug dissolution and disintegration
characteristics, thus improving formulas' subsequent bioavailability. Croscarmellose
sodium also resolves formulators' concerns over long-term functional stability,
reduced effectiveness at high tablet hardness levels, and similar problems associated
with other products developed to enhance drug dissolution.

Croscarmellose sodium is a pure, white, with fibrous particles, free-flowing powder
which does not interfere with binding or flow at typical use levels. In tablets,
concentrations as low as 1% may be used. Generally, a 2% level is recommended for
tablets made by direct compression, and a 3% level is typical for those products made
by wet granulation.

Features and product benefits

Good water uptake (high capillary action) Rapid swelling properties Relatively long fiber length provides
efficient fluid channeling Excellent long-term dissolution stability Dissolution/disintegration independent of
tablet hardness Highly effective in direct compression
and wet granulation Low use level. Typical use levels of
    0.5%-3%
